DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG) - Deep Dive Research

Hi everyone! I am working non-stop provide the best research and analysis regarding DraftKings (NASDAQ: DKNG). I originally posted my overall investment thesis on the company a few weeks back and now I am breaking down and analyzing the latest news and developments regarding DKNG! And no, it is not the ticker symbol for Donkey Kong.
DraftKings in my opinion, is the best pure play investment if you want some exposure to the sports betting, iGaming, and daily fantasy sports space. They're founder led (3 founders to be exact) and they're invested into the company themselves right alongside all of us shareholders or potential shareholders.
Within the last week, there has been some exciting developments regarding DraftKings. I will share them below:
DK Gift Cards Are Live! You can buy a DK gift card as a stocking stuffer for Christmas if you want.
I’m really excited to hear this news. It’s only going to increase the brand awareness of DK and that’s what we want. According to the press release on DK’s investor relations website, they’ve partnered with InComm Payments to facilitate the launching of the gift cards. InComm payments is a global leading payments technology company that has a network of retailers that DK will be able to leverage through this partnership. Convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Speedway and Dollar General are just some of the many convenience stores in Incomm Payments’ network that DK will be able to leverage. For now, the gift cards will be offered in $50 and $25 denominations.
The great thing about this to me is that they’ve beat their competitors to this. That shows managements initiative and ability to get things done which I complimented when I first picked this company. As of right now, you’re not going to be seeing any “FanDuel” (boo FanDuel *thumbs down emoji*) gift cards in the stores. Tim Richardson, the Senior Vice President at InComm Payments was quoted as saying “DraftKings will benefit from having its brand present in tens of thousands of Incomm Payments’ retail partner locations across the US”. Overall, good news for DK.
New York State – Getting desperate? Do they need some online sports gambling revenue?
I want to make this clear before I write about this topic – sports betting is already legal in New York state. The problem is, it’s only legal in brick and mortar (retail) locations. Just under a dozen upstate casinos can operate brick and mortar sports books at the moment. In typical DK fashion, they’re already active in a casino in New York State. DK offers in person brick and mortar sports betting through the Del Lago Resort Casino in Waterloo, NY. My news update I’m sharing is that it appears New York state might be considering expanding to online sports betting too due to a budget shortfall they’re experiencing (they need more tax revenue).
This news came out on Wednesday, 12/16/20 during the day time. Governor Cuomo had a press conference during the day. The press conference was primarily focused on giving an update on the COVID-19 pandemic in New York state. During the presser, the topic of New York state’s budget shortfalls came up. As a possible financial solution, Cuomo said “Are there other ways to get revenue? How about marijuana? How about sports betting?” He’s referring to the possible tax revenue that could be collected if sports betting offerings were expanded beyond just the brick and mortar offerings. What if every New Yorker could place a sports wager from the comfort of their own home on their cell phone?
The battle for legalizing online sports gambling in New York has been going on for years. Governor Cuomo has always been opposed to it. One of the reasons Gov. Cuomo has cited in the past is that he thinks a constitutional amendment would need to be made to New York state law to allow for mobile sports betting in the state. However, one state representative from New York that has been pushing hard for online sports gambling begs to differ. In response to Cuomo’s comments in the presser earlier that day, State Senator Joseph Addabbo said that there would be no constitutional problem with mobile sports betting because the servers could be placed on site of grandfathered in physical casinos. Addabo said that New York state’s need for revenue is “real and immediate”
This is a situation to keep a close eye on. The impacts of legalizing mobile sports betting in NY would be substantial for DK as it would open the population of 20 million people in NY state the opportunity to place wagers on the DK Sportsbook app through the comfort of their home. I imagine it wouldn’t be too difficult for DK to mobilize once they get the green light for mobile betting as they already have the standing relationship with Del Lago Resort Casino for in person betting.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) granted DK a provisional license to conduct online gaming and sports betting in the state of Michigan
For this update I also want to be clear – retail (brick and mortar) and mobile sports betting are already legal in the state of Michigan. It’s just that there’s a lot of yellow tape for Sportsbooks like DK to navigate within a state even after sports betting has become legalized. This provisional license provided by the MGCB was provided to DK and 14 other sportsbooks (including rival FanDuel) on Thursday, December 10th last week.
Now there are just a few more regulatory requirements that DK has to meet in the state of Michigan before they can go live. According to http://www.michigan.gov, “Before launch happens, the platform providers must complete additional regulatory requirements including independent testing of platforms and games and MGCB approval of their internal controls, which ensure gaming integrity. The firms also must secure occupational licenses for certain employees.” You can read the full article on Michigan’s government website here.
Knowing that DK has a knack for being quick to mobilize once they’re given opportunities in respective states, I fully expect them to pass these last few tests with flying colors. The DK Sportsbook app has already been available in the state of Michigan for “free to enter” games. Once they pass the last few requirements, actual wagers will be allowed to be placed. And money will be allowed to be made!
Another promising sign coming out of the state of Michigan, is that on November 30th, 2020, DK became an official sports betting partner of the Detroit Pistons, the NBA basketball team in Michigan. DK Chief Business Officer, Ezra Kucharz, was on the record after the deal closed saying “As our first professional team activation in the state of Michigan, we are thrilled to join forces with the Detroit Pistons ahead of our pending market introduction”. In my opinion, I anticipate we’ll be seeing DK online sports betting in Michigan some time in early 2021.
This concludes my update and analysis on DraftKings.

B&M casinos better get with the program or they risk losing a lot of business

With the expansion of online casino options that have significantly better promos and payouts, I feel that B&m locations run a risk of losing a ton of business.
I went back to my local for the first time since COVID after playing online. In my time online I hit two handouts, on a 3 and 6 dollar bet, which is as many as I hit in essentially 10 years of playing at b&m casinos, and the two I did hit were both on high limit 10 dollar spins with one be 1200 dollars on the dot.
My experience today was horrendous as usual. I wanted to play buffalo grand and it sucked 250 dollars out of me in 10 minutes on a 3 dollar bet before I did hit a bonus. I retrievers up to forty spins but I only got 40x on the bonus which for forty spins frankly sucks. I played 400 total and that was my best hit on any machine and I was gone in an hour.
Meanwhile, my experience playing on DK and MGM has been significantly better. I notice far more wins in the 100 to 200x range, which at one point at my local I counted 10 straight trips I didn’t even get that.
Also, my local offers almost no promos and has no hotel. Free play is laughable, like 20 dollars a week. You can get a BOGO buffet. I had a spin for my birthday and I got 5 dollars free play.
Meanwhile DK constantly gives me deposit bonuses and pretty great profit boosts for the sportsbook. You can also tell the difference between a 95%+ playback online and the 85% you get at a lot of the machines at my local.
Bottom line, I won’t be going back. In a friends group for a night out or to play table games, yes, but there is literally zero reason to go play at a b&m and get screwed over when I get a better payback online and frankly better benefits. I’ll still go to Vegas as they do give food offers, but locals...screw them.

Super Wildcard Weekend!!!

Saturday Games

Colts at Bills: Quite an interesting matchup to open the day. The Colts only made it to the playoffs this year because the Bills helped them get in. The Colts needed the Bills to beat Miami in week 17, otherwise the Bills would be re-matching Miami, a team that they clearly would have crushed if they rested starters for a loss in week 17 like PIT. How ironic would it be if the Colts bumped the Red HOT Bills out in the first round?! 😅
Welp.... "The Bills are the fourth team over the last 40 seasons to enter the playoffs on an eight-game cover streak. The three teams before them all covered the spread in their first playoff game and won by at least 12 points. Additionally, Indy has failed to cover in each of its last three games, which is the longest active streak by a playoff team. "... it looks as if it might be an uphill battle.
However, lets not hop on the Bills Mafia train too quickly. It appears that around 80% of the tickets and the cash are on the Bills, but the line hasn't moved from its 6.5 open except to DROP down to 6 in some spots. This is very indicative on some sharp money keeping balance on the Indy side. The same is true for the total. 80% of the tickets and 75% of the money is on the over, but the line opened 51.5 and has stayed true, or dropped to 51 in some spots.
Looking deeper, we see one of the Bills weaknesses is their run defense. That plays perfectly into the Colts build as they are a team that likes to play great defense, establish the run, and take a few shots with Rivers. Also, Indianapolis ranks second in the NFL with an average of 10.3 first-quarter points per game and the Colts scored at least 20 points in the first half in four of their final five games. If the Colts can build an early lead and rely on the run, this game has potential for an upset. Especially with how sneaky good their defense can be.
As hard as it may be to bet, the value seems to be on the Colts with the points. If you're feeling really spicy and public contrarian, this is one of the three games I think a contrarian play holds some value this weekend.

Rams at Seahawks: The first of the two divisional rematches of the weekend. The LA Rams won their week 17 game with a backup QB in his first start. That places them up against the Seahawks who ended the season with a close divisional win vs. the 49ers.
(Before typing this rest of this match up, I want to put a disclaimer of Bias. I am on the Hawk train this year. My futures plays include them, and Baltimore(I had 4 futures plays paying above my "true odds" but the only two I played were SEA and BAL) Take my write up on this game with a grain of salt as I will be predicting SEA to win every game until they hold the SuperBowl trophy 🤑)
First off we have the Rams. One of the main things they have going for them is their defense. It is by far the best in the league, with the next closest defense being the Steelers. That defense is legit, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them sack Russ a few times and if they are lucky, get points on defense. The second thing they have going for them is their coach. I think (don't quote me) McVay is 5-3 against SEA since he took over and he just won last week with a QB that had never played a NFL snap and went on to throw a pick on the opening drive and score 0 TDs in the game. Even IF Goff comes back and is 100% healthy, he only threw for 536 yards with 0 touchdowns and an interception while posting a QBR of under 55 in the combined first two matchups this year.
Now Seattle on the other hand. If they can pull it all together, meaning their first half of the season offense with their second half of the season defense....Game over. On the league.
For this game in particular though, I don't think much has to be done. The most I can give back up QB for the Rams is 10-13 points and if Goff is in, I give him a ceiling of 20-23 points (Ceiling is all things going well) So IF Goff his 100 percent healthy, hits his ceiling, AND the Rams defense continues its regular season dominance by helping out with a score and keeping SEA under 24-27, then maybe the Rams can win.
But lets be real, the Rams were my second favorite team to come out of the NFC (Behind SEA) until they played the Jets. From that game on, it has been a feeling of MEH, when considering the Rams chances to advance this year. And to top that feeling off, Russ is a perfect 5-0 in post season Home Games and Carrol is also perfect at home in the post season at 6-0. The last time that Seattle lost in the playoffs at home was against the St. Louis Rams in 2004.
Now I know this isn't the Legion of Boom, and the 12th man won't be there because...COVID... but Russ and company having the edge of no travel, sleep in their own bed... Is all I need. I am ride or die on Seattle, baby!

Tampa Bay at Washington: This is one of the harder games for me to gauge. My algo has this as a Tampa Bay victory the majority of the time (82/18). It sees this game similar to the Rams situation in that their defense is pretty good, can possibly get some points, but the offense may have a hard time finding the end zone. My algo does favor this spot for the WAS defense, more than it does the Rams defense, based solely on the offensive line for TB vs SEA and the mobility of SEA QB vs. Lead Toes Tommy when he is under pressure. But, EVEN IF WAS somehow gets a defensive score and an extra turnover or two, can they really keep up with how Brady has been playing as of late? Alex Smith hasss returned from his gruesome injury like some kind of God, going 5-1 in his 6 starts this year.
ANNNNND
The only home underdogs of over a TD in NFL playoff history:
• 2010 7-9 Seahawks WON OUTRIGHT
"Beast Quake" - Marshawn Lynch's TD literally set off vibrations

• 2011 8-8 Broncos WON OUTRIGHT
"Tebow 3:16" - Tim Tebow throws for 316 yards & OT TD

• 2020 7-9 Washington ???? Five years ago, a 7-8-1 Carolina Panthers team coached by Ron Rivera beat an 11-5 Arizona Cardinals team coached by Bruce Arians in the first round of the playoffs.

So confused on this one, I may just look at Gronk to score a TD (He and Brady need 1 to break the record for QB/Pass catcher post season) and stay away from everything else. But Ill probably end up teasing TB and then around game time taking WAS plus the points and looking for a middle.

Sunday Games

Honestly, It is 2am and I wanna get some sleep. I will touch this up tomorrow, post it and post Sunday games on Sunday morning.

My future plays have a very small sample size of being +EV so tail with caution...because I sure am)
Seattle to win the NFC (100u to win 600u)
Seattle to win the Super Bowl (83.33u to win 1000u)
So, when crunching the different SB scenarios (with a Bias towards SEA having a 75% chance to win this first game and 50% chances to win the next two) It gave me that the SEA/BAL matchup was at 3.4 percent of the time and if we assume SEA wins that 50% of the time we get crudely a 1.7% chance of happening. DK is paying 100-1 for SEA to beat BAL in the superbowl. Since I already have futures on SEA to win the NFC and SB, I took the SEA to beat BAL 100-1 odds thinking that if by some stroke of luck we get the 1.7% universe, I will have already won SEA to win NFC and can consider hedging those winnings on the BAL side if they happen to be catching points.
I know its a universe that is only 1.7% in existence (and that's in my mind too, haha) but based upon those calculations the casinos true odds should be closer to 58.8-1 and they are paying 100 to 1.
So to wrap all that up...
LETS GO ALL BIRDS SUPERBOWL!!!!
SEA to beat BAL in the SuperBowl (90u to win 9000u)

Thanks for reading everyone! Check back tomorrow for my Sunday picks. Good luck to all! 🤩

Background
FKA Twigs AKA Tahliah Debrett Barnett is an English singer-songwriter known for her intimate and personal brand of music blending hip-hop, electronic, pop, and soul influences. Growing up in Gloucestershire (a rural county in england) Her interest in music as a child and into her teenage years largely came from her family. Her mother was both a gymnast and a dancer; while her father worked as a jazz dancer. Her interest in dance led her to move to London at age 17 in order to pursue a career in dance. Including for a time she went to the BRIT School, but left after her request to transfer from dance to music was denied due to a lack of “skill” before finishing her education at Croydon College. This transition for Twigs from the country to the city was largely a positive one. Although she has fond memories of Gloucestershire she never really fit in and felt it contributed to a deep feeling of isolation Throughout the beginning of the 2010s she began her career in the spotlight largely as a backup dancer; most notably in the Jessie J songs "Do It Like a Dude" and "Price Tag." During this time she also got her start as an artist writing music seriously in the attempt to become someone known for their music rather than their image. Her first two projects were released in 2012 and 2013 as EP1 and EP2 which both received widespread acclaim from critics for it’s unique blend of trip-hop and art-pop. EP2 also saw Twigs future collaborator Arca who would help create glitchy sonic production that would help define this era of Twig's career and would continue that into her 2014 full length debut LP1.
Review by iamdarkridge:
Introduction
After the release of Magdalene in 2019 the vast majority of discussion and praise around FKA Twigs’s music has revolved around Magdalene, despite my love for that album LP1 is the album I feel most strongly about being her best album as well as one of the greatest art-pop album of all time. This praise certainly isn’t light, but I certainly have my reasons for it. LP1 tells a story that myself and I’d imagine many others can relate to. Themes of isolation, and self-hatred, and pressures associated with growing up sprinkled throughout the album give a vignette into the life of Twigs whose confidence continues to wane as both her love life and career become unstable. Anxiety over her future takes hold and throughout the album its existence is palpable:
I love another, and thus I hate myself
I view Twigs' appearance on the cover as someone who tries as hard as they can to be beautiful to the ones they love, but despite that effort their (metaphorical) bruises of self-hate still show. The cover to me is an expression of her inner self; striving for beauty but her difficulties with loving herself for who she is without acceptance from others leaves her inner-self a mess as those around her begin to show apathy. This sentiment is expanded upon on the opening track Preface. “I love another, and thus I hate myself” is repeated over and over throughout most of it’s 1:50 runtime. Offering itself as a first look into the themes of the album and a fantastic introduction to both the themes of the album as well as what I’d like to discuss here.

These eerie words are repeated throughout the track Preface. A dark and harrowing opening to the album, and it works exceptionally at setting the tone and gives a glimpse into the darker spots later within the album. I view the album as existing in three separate acts. The opening tracks including Lights On, and Two Weeks, and Hours tell a story of intense love at the level of near obsession. Lights On marks the beginning of this relationship. The relationship with her lover has gone to the point where she’ll “turn on the lights” in the relationship revealing less flattering aspects of each other’s personalities. At its core, it’s just an incredibly catchy, sensual, and intimate track, but within the context of the rest of album it does somewhat foreshadow many of the struggles Twigs deals with as a person in terms of her own self-esteem and alluding to the fact that she has a side that she hopes people don’t see. Two Weeks and Hours are tracks that both explore love within the relationship, but they are somewhat dichotomous. Two Weeks is a confident extravagantly produced song where her focus is getting someone to fall in love with her in two weeks. It’s forceful and confident, but that is in contrast to a much more submissive track with darker and more minimal production on Hours.

Pull out your incisor, give me two weeks you won’t recognize her
Mouth open, you’re high
  • Two Weeks
Am I suited to fit all of your needs?
Master of all of your needs
  • Hours
These songs coming right after Lights On being so different in tone I think is meant to differentiate the facade of confidence put forth by Twigs early in the relationship (on Two Weeks) and her submissive side (Hours) which had been alluded to on Lights on. The submissive side of Hours makes up the core of the album’s narrative. Throughout the second act within the album we begin to see that side of Twigs primarily. Focusing largely on her lack of confidence and the negative effects it has for her goals in life as well as her newfound love.
After Hours we begin an era of anxiety within both the relationship with her lover and herself. Pendulum, Video Girl, and Numbers speak on Twigs’s deepest insecurities. Pendulum and Numbers speaking directly to this feeling of never being good enough for the one she loves. Carrying with her anxiety over isolation and a longing for affection within the relationship that seems to no longer exist. Throughout the track Pendulum there’s a constant banging sample that plays intermittently throughout adding to the anxiety like a robot malfunctioning. Her anxiety and lack of self-confidence is breaking her, and that continues even outside of the relationship this album has spent so much time on. Video Girl gives us a peek of life outside of the relationship. Her struggles with being recognized for her musical ability and being typecast as the “video girl” referring to her previous work as a backup dancer in music videos.
The camera loves you, ain’t that enough
you’re craving for the whole universe
So nothing’s gonna get in your way
You’re gonna get yourself broke one day
This in many ways this mirrors what we have already discussed in her background and dealing with her time spent in college. Being seen as nothing more than a background dancer is a running theme throughout much of her life. A constant struggle with herself and society; longing to reach new heights as those around her ask her to be complacent. Being told both by herself and those around her that she isn’t good enough.
Closer marks the beginning of the 3rd act and is an important moment on LP1 and the growth of Twigs as a character on the album. The production begins to smooth out with slower, more airy production that continues throughout the last few tracks of the album. The change in production marks a shift within Twigs as a character. A moment of revelation where she begins to recognize that her low esteem led her to push away those she loved. It moves away from its prior dark, depressive, and anxiety fueled lyricism seen through the middle of the album for one resembling a choral arrangement with lyricism focused on honesty and freeing oneself from unnecessary negative feelings.
I’ll return i’ll live my life
Forever loving you
This and the next track Give Up exist as a moment of clarity where she begins to realize that she’s in control of her own life, and whether it be relationships or her career as a musician she can take the initiative to live the life she wants. This confidence continues onto the closing track Kicks. While she continues to love her lover she no longer feels bound in the same way she previously had.
When I’m alone I don’t need you
I love my touch
Know just what to do
Obviously this is a not so subtle allusion to masturbation, but it’s existence in the track and specifically the closing track is an important one. She still cares for her lover, but Twigs has more importantly begun to love herself. It’s an excellent conclusion to the narrative put forth by Twigs throughout LP1 and her growth as a character leaves an immense feeling of satisfaction during a listen. Very few artists are able to write in the same compelling and relatable way Twigs does.
While much of the review so far has had a majority focus on the themes presented by Twigs it would be a disservice to not recognize the stellar production throughout. Twigs previous work on EP1 and EP2 although incredibly well done lacked a level of experimentation and pure polish on display throughout LP1. Twigs produces/co-produces 7/10 tracks on LP1 along with help from Dev Hines, Arca, Sampha, Clams Casino and others. The diverse cast of producers leads to each song having its own take on the glitchy sound. Whether it be quite distorted background vocals adding to the anxious feeling throughout many of the early tracks or what sounds like wind on the track Give Up, each track’s production feels incredibly rich and leads to LP1 never feeling stale. A truly unique sonic experience that no other album in art-pop has ever truly matched. Although not without her influences like Björk, Aaliyah, and Kate Bush, Twigs is able to masterfully build upon those influences to make a sound all her own.
LP1 is a truly special album from one of modern music’s most interesting minds. Like the all time great art-pop artists that came before her with the work of collaborators she’s able to elevate her past work into something above and beyond what had been done prior. Building upon the raw and sensitive topics of her previous work and crafting a story that is as relatable as it is satisfying. One that explores the depths of insecurity and uses it as a way to express the feelings of relief when one is able to strip away self-doubt and use confidence as a stepping stone for success. This coupled with some truly stunning production that helps differentiate herself from any other singer songwriter making music that has not only aged incredibly well over the last 6 years, but will continue to do so far into the future.

Favorite Lyrics:
How does it feel to have me thinking about you?
Wishing my words were enough to consume you
  • Pendulum
Break or seize me
If the flame gets blown out and you shine
I will know that you can not be mine
Live or leave me
  • Lights On
Tell me why I act this way
Tell me that I’ll change some day
I’ll be the one that can satisfy you
If I can rectify the
Few things I’ve got to change
The few things in my way
Ok, so I’ve said it before and I won’t imply that
You’re not too close to the fact
