Streaming options for Week 3 - Who are you guys streaming next week? Here are my thoughts.
Happy New Year, my dear fellow fantasy NBA addicts!
Another week lies ahead of us and it's another chance for us to beat our friend and tease him in a witty but gentlemanly fashion. Or just plain put him down with no regard for his feelings, personal struggles, or the preservation of your friendship altogether.
To help you be on the giving and not the receiving and of this ridicule, I am taking a look at the NBA schedule for next week, breaking it down, pinpointing the days with the fewest games played, and suggesting some players from teams that have a favorable schedule that can be found in free agent pools or waiver wires across fantasy NBA leagues. Here are my thoughts on the

Baller Streaming Strategy for Week 3
Five NBA games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday in Week 3. This will leave open starting spots for most fantasy teams and we will be taking a look at who fantasy managers could pick up to fill these holes and help guide their teams to victory.
We should have no problems fielding decent lineups on most other days next week, as all of them have at least eight games scheduled.
Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs are the teams that play on both Tuesday and Thursday and have two other games next week as well. Players from these teams have the best chance of being helpful for fantasy managers. Furthermore, although Memphis Grizzlies and Portland Trail Blazers have just three games next week, they play on both of the scarce days so we will feature their players as well.

Keldon Johnson, SF, SAS, (57% Rostered) Strong Cats: 3PM, REB, STL/BLK, PTS Keldon Johnson was the 29th pick of the 2019 draft. In his rookie year, he didn't play much. Only one game in the calendar year 2019, and then eight more before COVID-19 paused the season, eclipsing the 20-minute mark just once. Then came the bubble and Keldon got his chance to prove he can ball with the best of them! He played 26 minutes per game and averaged 14.1 PTS on 63.8 FG%, 1.4 3PM (on 64.7% from beyond the arc!), 82.4 FT%, 5.0 REB, 1.1 AST, 1.1 STL, 0.1 BLK, and 1.3 TO over the course of eight games during August. That's some insane efficiency with some juicy counting stats to boot!
So most fantasy GMs came into the 2020 season cautiously with a wait and see approach on Keldon. Well, I hope your league-mates took this approach as well and that he is still available because he is worth a pickup in most leagues!
He has been starting from the beginning of the season and is averaging 30 minutes a night along with 15.0 points with 1.4 threes on 45.5% from the field and 84.2% from the line, 7.6 boards, 2.4 dimes, 1.4 steals, 0.8 blocks, and 2.4 turnovers. This is good enough for top 50 value so far.
Now, to be fair, there have been some more touches and minutes to be had with Aldridge missing two games so far due to injury, but even with LMA healthy, Keldon is a fantasy stud at the moment and doesn't really show signs of stopping.
With such a favorable schedule next week and with no word on Aldridge's return yet, Keldon shouldn't be on any waiver wires!
Deeper League Add
Tyus Jones, PG, MEM, (14% Rostered) Strong Cats: AST, STL Positive circumstance: more minutes while Ja Morant is out Jones has been a reliable backup to the starting PGs for several seasons now. First in Minnesota and now in Memphis. And whenever he got the chance he was there for his team. He isn't too flashy, he won't score 30 points, or hit seven threes and get 10 boards. He will (and did) however dish out 12 dimes and get two steals in 29 minutes to help the Grizzlies to a win over the Hornets with Ja Morant missing time with that nasty ankle sprain.
Jones is not a long term pickup, as he is likely to get under 20 minutes a night in a healthy Memphis rotation. However, at this time we know the reigning Rookie of the Year will be out at least three weeks, and his biggest competition for minutes
De'Anthony Melton is still stuck in a COVID-19 protocol which has already kept him out of four games. So as long as Jones is getting close to 30 minutes per outing, he will help your team out pretty decently in the steals and assists department with a few other counting stats here and there, without hurting you much anywhere else.
If this is something you could use in your next week's matchup, Tyus is really worth a look. Especially since he plays all his three games until Friday, so you can drop him then for someone else who can help you finish your opponent off.
Insanely Deep League Add
Gary Harris, SG/SF, DEN, (8% Rostered) Strong Cats: 3PM, STL, a bit little of everything I really like Gary Harris, and I absolutely love how "underrated" he is and how often he can be had, even in the deepest of leagues. Now, you surely noticed that I put underrated in quotation marks. This is because Gary is definitely an acquired taste in fantasy bball. He can really help you out on a good day, but if your team build clashes with his strengths and weaknesses, he can be quite hurtful too when his shot isn't falling.
So, what are his weaknesses?
Well, he shot under 43% from the field in two straight seasons (and hasn't been better this year either with just 40.9%). He also doesn't contribute too much in rebounds (eclipsed 3.0 over the course of a regular season just once in his career), assists (never eclipsed 3.0), or blocks (0.3 per game is his personal best). He doesn't score too much either lately as he averaged less than 13 points per game in his past two seasons and is at 8.8 so far this year.
So why should we consider him?
Well, he takes around four 3-point shots per game. So if his shot is falling, he can boost you in that category. He is a career 80.3% free throw shooter, so he can be of assistance there as well. And he never averaged under 1.0 steal (except for his rookie season when he played 13 minutes a game). If you don't mind the poor FG%, there is nothing he will hurt you with (he has 1.2 turnovers in 29 minutes per outing over the course of his entire career), and he will contribute across the board with the focus on threes and steals.
Furthermore, he will play 30+ minutes a night, and he is a very intelligent basketball player. Just take a look at the highlight reel of him and
Nikola Jokic hitting it off! I haven't seen that many back door or lob passes on such a high competition level in my life!
If you anticipate a close matchup next week in steals and threes and don't care if your FG% takes a hit, Gary could be the man to win it for you!

As always my dear fellow fantasy enthusiasts, I am here to take a look at the following week's NBA schedule, pinpoint days that will be difficult to navigate with a decent amount of playing guys, and suggest some options based on teams which play on those days.

Similarly to Week 5, Tuesday with three games and Thursday with four are the most difficult to field a decent starting team. In addition to these two days, Sunday might be challenging for some fantasy GMs with just six games. All other days have 8 or more games, so we will be pretty much disregarding them.

Baller Streaming Strategy for Week 6
With games on all three days with six and fewer days (Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday), players from the LA Clippers will be the most sought after commodity in Week 6. The Rockets play on both Tuesday and Thursday, so despite having just three games next week, their players are a decent early week option. They are scheduled to play against the Wizards (who have had their previous six games postponed due to Covid related issues) on Tuesday however, so be sure to check on the status of that game before adding anyone from Houston for streaming purposes as
Utah (4 games), Washington (4 games) and New York (3 games) all play on Tuesday and Sunday so their players can be helpful as well. I will repeat myself one more time here, beware of Washington's guys and be sure to check whether their games will go on or not before picking up any players involved in their games. I don't trust that they will have the full week, and therefore
I will not be suggesting anyone from Washington as we are focusing on streaming for next week, and there looks to be too much risk involved with them being healthy and playing all their games.

Obi Toppin, PF/C, NYK, (26% Rostered) - Strong Cats: REB, STL/BLK - buyer beware: plays very limited minutes and is probably not worth adding for streaming purposes except in very deep leagues
Shallower League Add
Nicolas Batum, SF/PF, LAC, (52% Rostered) Strong Cats: AST, STL, REB, FT% After being waived by the Hornets back in November, Batum's future in the NBA was quite uncertain. Fast forward two months, and here we are! Batum is playing close to 30 minutes a game and averaging 10.2 PTS with 2.1 3PM on 50.9 FG% and 87.0 FT%, 4.9 REB, 2.5 AST, 1.3 STL, 0.4 BLK and 0.7 TO with one of the biggest title contenders in the league. This has him ranked at #61 on Yahoo.
He might be one of the biggest surprises of the season, especially since nobody expects a "breakout season" from a 32-year-old veteran! We all know what he can do, and he has been known to keep up similar stats for longer periods of time in the past, so a significant drop off is not something to be expected.
It is unlikely that he will keep shooting this well from the field as he is a 43.5% career shooter, but with him getting the right passes at the right position on this strong Clippers team, it is not unfathomable. And with the Clippers having such a favorable schedule in a four-game week, this is the perfect time to add Nic if he is still available in your league.
Who knows, if he keeps playing like this, you might just keep him long-term as well.
Deeper League Add
Ivica Zubac, C, LAC, (22% Rostered) Strong Cats: FG%, REB, BLK I really like Zubac, but I must admit that it's not because of his fantasy output. He is a 7-foot big who can shoot free throws, which is not that common in the NBA, and I respect that. Furthermore, he gets decent stats given his limited playing time, and I respect that as well. He is also from Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and one of my closest friends is from the very same city, so Ivica is definitely my guy! But those limited minutes...they really hurt his fantasy game.
Zubac is averaging 7.6 points on 70.3% from the field and 81.6% from the charity stripe, 5.2 boards, 0.9 dimes, 0.4 steals, 0.9 blocks and 0.9 turnovers in just 18 minutes a night. Those percentages look sooo tasty, but unfortunately, they don't help fantasy teams too much as he takes just 4.0 FG attempts and 2.4 free-throws per outing.
Despite the low minutes, Zubac is ranked at #157 this season, and if your team is punting something like threes or assists, this rank would probably jump inside the top 100 if you take that into consideration. And even if you're not punting those cats, but just need some boards and blocks on high efficiency and low turnovers, he can provide that for you on next week's scarce gamedays.
Insanely Deep League Add
Jae'sean Tate,
SG, HOU, (6% Rostered) -
Strong Cats: 3PM, REB, STL/BLK - positive circumstance: rookie factor - buyer beware: also the rookie factor Tate is an undrafted rookie who has impressed (up to a point) so far with the Rockets. He has averaged 8.9 points with 0.7 threes on 50.5% from open play and 66.7% from the free-throw line along with 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.9 blocks and 1.3 turnovers in 26 minutes per game which is good enough for spot #163 in Yahoo rankings. Not great, not terrible - especially for someone who was available on almost all free agent pools at the beginning of the season.
Now, there are plenty of risks with Tate.
Crowded rotation. Houston has 10 guys averaging over 20 minutes this season. Six of them have SG eligibility on Yahoo. Moreover, they just added
Kevin Porter Jr. so he might take away some minutes from Tate as well.
Undrafted rookie. It does happen, but there aren't too many success stories beginning with these two words are there? You don't get guys like Ben Wallace, John Starks, or in modern times
Fred Vanvleet that often, so Tate has his work cut out for him. Although, should the Rockets opt for a rebuild after
James Harden's departure, he could see a significant enough role to be quite valuable.
On the other hand, he did just block three shots and get three steals in his previous game and has been racking up boards and stocks all season long. For a guy who is owned in just 6% of the leagues and who plays on both Tuesday and Thursday next week, if that is what you're looking for, he could fit in quite well in your team. At least for next week's streaming purposes.

Four Somewhat Realistic Trades That Would Shake up the NBA
So, almost a week ago, I posted a blockbuster four-team trade scenario involving James Harden, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, and CJ McCollum. Not only did the post not age well at all (Harden was traded to the Nets just one day later), but it was a very odd-ball idea and not many people agreed with my ideas. But the people were at least respectful and were very reasonable about why they didn’t like the trade; combined with my growing interest in trade scenarios, it inspired me to make this post consisting of four more trades. Except these trades are much more realistic, seemingly could be proposed in the actual NBA, and the pieces involved in these trades actually have a chance of getting moved sooner rather than later. Let’s get into it.
Trade One
Oklahoma City Thunder receive: Lauri Markkanen Chicago Bulls receive: Darius Bazley, 2021 first round pick unprotected
At first glance, this trade seems like a complete robbery by the Thunder, but I can explain. For the Bulls, two big problems of theirs and two big reasons for their slow start to the year is that they cannot defend anyone and that they have too many power forwards. They have Patrick Williams, Lauri Markkanen, and Thaddeus Young all at power forward, all of whom are deserving of big minutes, and all they have at small forward is Otto Porter Jr. and Chandler Hutchinson, neither of whom have shown they can be the future at the three. Because of this, Patrick Williams has been forced to be a small forward when, with his length and not that great shooting ability, he profiles much better as a four. That being said, even though Darius Bazley is also predominantly listed as a four, he is only 6’8 and 208 pounds, is quick, and is already a better defender in year two than Lauri is in year four, making him much more versatile and able to play the three. He can also either start or come off the bench. Obviously Bazley isn’t and never was as good as Lauri, but that’s where the pick comes in. You see, seeing as to how the Thunder are the 9 seed at 6-6 (with a 2-4 start) and how they play in a STACKED Western Conference, the pick involved in the trade, which is their own pick, is likely going to be a lottery pick. As for the Thunder, it’s pretty simple; they don’t have a solidified four for the future and none of their other guys besides Shai and Dort have really proven theirselves as building blocks for the future. That being said, they need a second star to compliment Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lauri could be that guy.
Trade Two
Bucks receive: Kemba Walker, Semi Ojeleye, 2025 first round pick unprotected (via Boston) Celtics receive: Bradley Beal, Troy Brown Jr., Jerome Robinson Wizards receive: Jrue Holiday, Donte DiVincenzo, D.J. Wilson, 2021 first round pick unprotected (via Boston), 2023 first round pick unprotected (via Boston)
So, for trade number two, we have a three team deal here. For the Wizards, they are addressing one of the main reasons they have started of slow and been so disappointing, their perimeter defense, getting a player that could probably play better off ball next to Russ than Beal could, and trading away a player who does sometimes hint that he doesn’t want to be there. As for the Celtics, one of the main reasons they lost to the Heat in last years playoffs was because their offense stagnated; they seemingly had no on who could run the offense and at times, they would stray away from offensive sets and just constantly iso with their stars. They had good chemistry off the court, but there was just a complete lack of acceptance of roles on the court. In this scenario, they are trading for Bradley Beal, who has experience playing off the ball for John Wall and could definitely do so in this Celtics system. They would have Teague/Pritchard at the one running the offense, Beal, Brown, and Tatum as off ball scorers, and then Thompson/Theis manning the middle. I know Beal is one of the worst defenders in the league, but how was Brad Stevens able to have one of the NBA’s best defenses with Isaiah Thomas as his starting point guard? For the Bucks, two things they really, really need are shot creation and playmaking. Jrue Holiday was theoretically supposed to solve that problem but they are playing him in a role similar to that of Eric Bledsoe and are giving him similar shots per game. That being said, seeing as to how they have Middleton, Lopez, Giannis, and Craig and are receiving Semi Ojeleye in this trade, they would probably be willing to sacrifice the incredible perimeter defense of Holiday and DiVincenzo to address major needs.
Trade Three
Nuggets receive: Ben Simmons, Danny Green, Vincent Poirier 76ers receive: Paul Millsap, Will Barton, Gary Harris, 2021 first round pick unprotected, 2025 first round pick unprotected, 2027 first round pick unprotected
The Sixers would do this trade because Ben Simmons not only is having a very underwhelming year but doesn’t fit with Embiid. You see, Simmons, similar to a player like Giannis, is a non-shooting point forward that needs to run the offense and needs shooters around him. But on the Sixers, there is Joel Embiid, who shoots like 33 percent from three for his career, usually hovers around 30-32 in terms of usage rate, and isn’t much of a playmaker at all. I don’t mean that as a testament to how good he is compared to the rest of the league, but he clearly doesn’t fit with Simmons. On the Nuggets, he would have a center in Nikola Jokic that is easily a better shooter, isn’t as much of a scorer and is an elite passer, not only for a seven footer but for any player in general. He’d also have Jamal Murray, who I don’t have to explain why he and Simmons could co-exist. He would also fill their need for perimeter defense that they’ve been missing. I mean, Jokic throwing a pass to a cutting Ben Simmons would be so beautiful. As for the Sixers, Embiid is a type of player (similar to like James Harden or Russell Westbrook) that doesn’t necessarily need the Scottie Pippen or the Klay Thompson’s of the world to be able to win games because he is such a high usage player. That being said, the players they are getting back for Simmons would greatly open up the floor for Embiid and are way less ball dominant than Simmons, leading to more touches for Embiid.
Trade Four
Golden State Warriors receive: Karl Anthony-Towns, Jarred Vanderbilt Minnesota Timberwolves receive: Kelly Oubre Jr., James Wiseman, Jordan Poole, 2021 first round pick unprotected (via Minnesota), 2023 first round pick unprotected, 2025 first round pick unprotected, 2027 first round pick unprotected
The last trade involves Karl-Anthony Towns. I’m going to keep the Wolves side of things short and sweet: they drafted KAT with the number one pick in 2015, and while Towns has developed into one of the best offensive centers we have ever seen, his team has only made the playoffs once in five years and is on track to miss them again this year. The Wolves have tried everything, from getting his best friend D’Angelo Russell to getting Jimmy Butler, and have had two top five picks in that span but nothing seems to work. So they are starting from square one with Kelly Oubre (say what you want about him but he’s been solid recently), and this years number two pick, James Wiseman. As for the Warriors, they are currently a middle of the pack team (not good enough to contend but also not good enough to get a top draft pick) sitting at 7-6, so they make this move to push theirselves into title contention and to not waste the end of Steph and Klay’s primes. KAT, as a stretch big who can handle and pass the ball, is the big the Warriors have always needed during the Splash Bros era and fits perfectly in Steve Kerr’s system. Defense and depth (to an extent) would be an issue, but it would be a very good start towards building a championship contender once again, and if Klay comes back (more specifically, if he comes back healthy) this Warriors team would be a legit contender either way.

[OC] What would rosters look like if you took the top 950+ players in WS/48 and put them on teams they grew up near?
If this seems familiar, I actually did a
version with 700 players and minimum 15000 minutes played. I dropped the minutes requirement to 10000 to include players who spent most/all of their career in the ABA and players who burned bright but had injury troubles (Brandon Roy and Doug Collins).
If you're not a fan of reading a lot of text, here's the
imgur link to rosters, although you should know I added 25 new teams! There is a TL;DR at the bottom!
Inspiration
Ever since LeBron went back to Cleveland, it's always fascinated me on what rosters would look like if everyone went home. I did this during the shutdown for the
current rosters (all 514 players that played a game in 2019-2020 before the shutdown plus Jusuf Nurkic, who would have returned had the season continued normally)!
Player Pool and Team Pool
I used the
top 957 players who have at least 10000 minutes played in their career.
Why 10000 minutes played? Because that's the lower standard set by Basketball-Reference to get on their ABA career leaderboard (15000 MP for NBA).
I added George Mikan, because even though he hasn't played enough minutes, he's featured in
All-Time ESPN NBARank and
Bill Simmons Hall of Fame Pyramid.
I started off with the current 30 teams. To split up the Lakers and Clippers, I gave the Clippers their proposed Inglewood site.
As I looked at the
map of player hometowns, I realized that there were:
- some areas that had a lot of players, but few close NBA teams.
- conversely, some areas that had bloated rosters with too many players
Based off city population and arena size, I added 25 new teams. I relaxed my arena restrictions (minimum capacity before was 10000).
- I obviously had to give Seattle their team back
- Birmingham, North Little Rock and Shreveport helped to split up the South
- Pittsburgh and St. Louis were big cities without teams
- Berkeley added to siphon off San Francisco
- if I add Oakland, it takes away too many players
- Anaheim and Westwood added in Southern California (Clippers & Lakers)
- Winston-Salem and Raleigh to pare down Charlotte
- Lansing to prune Detroit
- 2nd Atlanta team in suburb of College Park
- 2nd Washington team and Baltimore
- 2 more teams in Chicago (Rosemont and South Side) + a team in Gary
- 2nd Indiana team + Louisville & Lexington
- 2nd Philadelphia team in suburb of Wynnewood
- 3 more teams in the New York Area (Newark, Queens and Long Island)

The Process
- I started off gathering hometowns due to this fantastic database by Reuben Fischer-Baum (original article source here). But I wanted to get more granular, and try to pinpoint neighborhoods. Basically, I searched up "[player name] grew up neighbourhood" and variations of that, which is how I found out that:
- Kyle Lowry grew up at 20th and Lehigh
- Wilt Chamberlain grew up at 401 N Salford Street
- Julius Erving grew up at 90 Pleasant Ave
- big shoutout to Ted Silary's site, which was a godsend to divide Philly
- Next, I used the haversine formula to find which arena a player is closest to
- one exception was in Connecticut where the distance formula would go over Long Island Sound (a body of water), so all players east of Hartford were given to Boston
I created rotations to the best of my ability, but
I am not proclaiming these as the be-all, end-all - I took a glance at stats (lean modern if stats are close) and playing reputation
- I moved positions around to maximize talent, but tried to keep it realistic
Next phase was to add international players
- I assigned them to their American “hometown" which was a combination of biggest impact (most win shares accumulated) and most memorable stop
- These usually agreed w/each other, a few exceptions covered below
- Dikembe, Divac were some borderline cases
- Gave Dikembe to Atlanta over Denver (iconic upset against Seattle when in Denver, won 2 of his 4 DPOYS + had best per-minute impact in ATL)
- Divac- Kings over Lakers (but he’s more known as a component of the fun early 2000s kings teams w/C-Webb, Peja, White Chocolate)
- Don’t really see people talk about his stint as the bridge between Kareem and Shaq
And with that, here are the all-time hometown rosters including internationals in italics! (If you're more of a visual person, here's the
imgur link where I also included regular season stats and career accolades)

Why did you do it?
- always been fascinated with it ever since Bron came home
Who did you use?
- player pool was top 957 in career ws/48 (min 10000 mp) from basketball-reference, plus George Mikan (listed in ESPN's AllTime NBARank and Bill Simmons Basketball Pyramid but didn't meet the minutes requirement)
- team pool was originally 30 teams, added more teams where there were an abundance of players
New Teams:

Spirits of St. Louis | Beal, Iguodala |
Westwood Bruins | Arenas, Jrue |
Winston-Salem Demon Deacons | Logo, CP3 |
Wynnewood Hawks | Kobe, Wilt, Lowry |
How did you do it?
- Googled "[player name] grew up neighbourhood" and variations of that
- haversine formula to find closest arena
- Custom Google MyMaps with all the arenas on it
- gave international players to their "adopted hometown" aka the combination of biggest impact (most win shares) and most memorable stop
Where did you do it?
Are you a nephew?
- Both my parents have siblings, so in the technical sense, yes.
If you made it this far, thank you for reading! I hope y'all enjoyed the read!
